June 11, 2009 - Knapp Posts Strong Buell Finishes at Road America

East Troy, Wis. (June 8, 2009) Taylor Knapp posted fourth and sixth place finishes aboard his Latus Motor’s Buell 1125R in last weekend’s AMA Pro Racing Daytona SportBike double header at Road America, his best finishes of the season.

Knapp’s fourth place finish in Saturday’s rain-soaked Race 1, which included a two-lap dash for the checkered flag after a late-race caution, was a test of fortitude and survival for the 22-year-old, Lapeer, MI-based racer.

“Normally I'm horrible in the rain. But I clicked good, and got a good rhythm and flow [going],” said Knapp, who led the 13-lap race early until being passed by eventual winner Chris Peris (Erion Honda) on lap four. “The big difference for me this weekend was that I qualified well. I started up front and was determined to stay up front.”

In blistering heat at Infineon Raceway the GEICO Powersports RMR Buell team and the Rossmeyer RMR team finish the first race race of the double header weekend.

Barnes ended up qualifying 19th and Teammate Eslick 11th right outside the top ten. The Start of the Daytona Sportbike race led to the safety truck coming out due to a multi rider accident in the back of the paddock. The safety car was out for multiple laps ensuring the track was safe for the remainder of the race. Once the race restarted Eslick took the opportunity to gain some ground within the first few opening laps. By mid race Eslick had snuck up to a solid 7th place. But for Eslick that wasn’t good enough. With just a few laps to go Eslick made a clean pass on the 6th place rider and then the next lap passing 5th. The checkered flag out Danny ended crossing the finish line in 5th. “It was a good race, of course I would’ve like to put my Rossmeyer RMR Buell 1125R on the box but there is always tomorrw,” we just didn’t get it done today,” said Eslick.

Teammate Barnes on the GEICO Powersports bike had been searching for the proper race setup all weekend and before the start of the race had made some small steps but just not the “final” step. During the race Barnes had moved up to 15th position and had built a comfortable race pace. With just a few laps to go Barnes coming into turn 11 had a minor crash, shook it off, picked the bike up and did his ride through to ensure the bike was ok to finish the race. This unfortunate get up resulted in Barnes finishing 22nd place.

Richie Morris Racing races to the podium and a top five finish in the middle of a tornado! This past weekend was nothing short of strong winds and heavy rains. But that wasn't enough for the GEICO Powersports RMR Buell and the Rossmeyer RMR Buell teams to have strong finishes!
